Scott Waldman On Lido Beach, His Multi-Faceted Career & What He Misses About Living On Long Island
A Lido Beach native now based in Los Angeles, Scott Waldman is one of the busiest people I have ever encountered. He is a recording artist under the artist name Lido Beach. He manages artists and producers as part of Waldman Management. He hosts the radio show and podcast known as Waldman's Words on idobi Radio. He handles Senior A&R responsibilities for Legend Recordings. Waldman also often pops up as a collaborator with other artists.
This week on Friday, July 27th, Scott Waldman will be releasing the first new Lido Beach track in years, "You Fell Hard." I had the pleasure of doing Q&A with Waldman about his history with Long Island and plenty more. More on the very entertaining multi-hyphenate can be found online at www.lidobeachband.com.
Your long-time band is named Lido Beach. Was there ever any feedback from town officials about that?
Scott Waldman: Nope, but there is a lot of feedback from those in the 11561/516 on the weekly regarding the name. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. You can’t please everyone. Sorry?
Lido Beach recently released its first new single in a long time. Was any of that written or recorded on Long Island?
Scott Waldman: NOPE!
How often do you get back to the Island?
Scott Waldman: 2 to 3 times a year; I’m lucky.
Is there a must-go restaurant or two when you back on the Island?
Scott Waldman: Steven’s Pasta just reopened and I’m freaking the f**k out.
Living in Los Angeles, do you often do you encounter Long Islanders?
Scott Waldman: Way too often… (laughs)
Is there anything you miss about living on Long Island?
Scott Waldman: My mom, my sister, my buddies, Deja One -- I MISS YOU, DEJA ONE -- The Witches Brew, goodest pizza, good good coffee, SOME REAL people, Chinese food, and you.
What was your first concert as a Long Islander?
Scott Waldman: I lived in Lido Beach, I went to too many ska/hardcore/punk shows to count all across the Island, BUT my first concert concert sans my parents was No Doubt, Weezer and The Lunachicks at Jones Beach. IT RULED.
Lido Beach aside, what is coming up for you career-wise? I ask that knowing full well that you have a lot of jobs…
Scott Waldman: You did your research. Mazel. We both have Jewish last names. Mazel. I manage bands, producers, and writers. I also have an industry show on idobi Radio called Waldman’s Words; you’ll be on it soon. I also have a Senior A&R position at Legend Recordings.
Non-career wise -- which you didn’t ask, but I will answer anyway -- I am married to a wonderful woman and that is my top life priority.
Finally, Scott, any last words for the kids?
Scott Waldman: Don’t smoke cigarettes. Ever.
